tony smith kills it

Underrated? Maybe, he's definitely not overrated.
Overlooked? I think so.
I love me some Anthony Peter Smith either way.
I may even own one,
(more on that in another post)
and I'm pretty damn sure I sold one
not knowing what it was.
I wish the guy that bought it had just paid and walked out
the door
rather than announcing he was a Tony Smith scholar
and gloating that he believed the painted piece of
cardboard I had just sold him
for nothing was a maquette.
Ignorance is bliss,
but it was that little bit of bad news that
made me go out and buy this
book so many years ago.
If I were you, I'd go buy one too....

I want to know what is going on here.
Are those paintings in the background?
Is that a cash register, a sculpture or both?

more ray johnson....

Ray Johnson
"Interiors"
Cover
November 1947

Never noticed this before.
I of course noticed the cool cover,
just not that it was by Ray.
Gonna dig my copy out when I get home....
You can really see the influence of
Albers on Ray.
He wouldn't stay here long though....

From the great exhibition catalog of:

ray johnson: from bmc to nyc poster

I found this super cool poster
at the
in Asheville yesterday while I was out
shopping for junk.
(I found a couple of cool things.)
Anyway,
 for 10 bucks this
super limited edition silkscreen
is a steal at 10 times the price.
It's from the exhibition curated by
Sebastian Matthews:
It was designed by the curator and his brother
Bill Matthews.
Super excellent job guys,
I wish I had seen the exhibition....
The John Cage exhibition that is up now
is cool too:
If you are around Asheville,
make sure to check it out!

tom sachs "color"

Need a break from the screaming kids,
the blaring x-mas music,
"Strawberry Shortcake" for the 17th time,
the inane babel of the
Giants / Jets pre-game,
the madness of everyone trying to eat
at the same time,
or even the roar if the fire?
Put on a pair of
Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones
and watch this....

okolo's "vienna only"

Imagine my surprise
when this beautiful
magazine
arrived in the mail unannounced.

It seems my new internet friend
Adam Štěch
of
knew I would love it.
Thanks Adam!

And it is GREAT,
The issue is all about Vienna,
so of course my hero,
Carl Auböck's studio is included.
It's a great spread with
killer pictures from the workshop.
I'm not sure how to get an issue,
but it would be worth your while to track one down.
I am only featuring the Auböck spread,
but there is much, much more cool stuff in there....
But for now,
I'll give you a virtual tour of the Auböck piece:

Thanks again
Adam
and
GREAT job!
